Being a subjective issue, grading can be a challenge with many series. Personally I find the $2 1/2 and $5 Incuse gold very difficult and fortunately I don't often have to grade these. On another note I find the Ike dollars very difficult due to their relative lack of circulation wear and heavy bagmarks associated with the series. What series do you find challenging?

Without a doubt, the Buffalo nickels are the most difficult for me. A myriad of striking issues and quality control at the various branch mints means that you have to be informed on the differences from year to year. A Buff can be MS and display device weaknesses that mimic wear. This translates to errant grading at the TPGs as well.

For me, it would be Buffalo nickels and Nickels in general.

With US coins I'd say Standing Liberty quarters, especially the earlier ones without the recessed date. Once they've left the low MS grades they seem to deteriorate rapidly and I find it hard to decide whether they're F, VF or even XF!

Among World coins, I'd nominate the Palestine series from 1927 to 1947: no portraits and very little detail to judge, and with such a short series there are a lot of VF to AU coins around with little difference between them.

I agree that Nickels are tough. Buffalo and Jeffersons.
