Why Was This Buffalo Nickel Grade ANACS AU-58?

MrDigsit New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 03/20/2011 10:59 pm Hello, I realize I would never get my money back on such a common date coin. I give all my coins, bought, won or dug to my daughter to keep for my grand kids until they are older. I like to give them a graded one now and then. With my meager grading skills I would not dispute the ANACS AU58 grade but I would like to learn the factors that kept it from grading higher. Thanks, mike Report this Post to the Staff

fenton Pillar of the Community United States 4992 Posts	Posted 03/22/2011 3:31 pm A coin with superb luster and virtually no marks will grade AU-58 if there is noticeable wear. In some cases it is very hard to distinguish between wear and strike weakness or even bag scuffs so, many times, it comes down to a judgement call on the part of the grader. That is why you can break out AU-58 coins, resubmit them, and occasionally get MS-64 type grades. Report this Post to the Staff
