I have been unable to identify this coin from any dealer or collector.
One side has written Pierre Elliot Trudeau Prime minister of Canada.
The other side has written building a just society that all may live
in brotherhood and peace.Canada.

Best guess is coin is gold plated silver.

Any links or references to this coin would be appreciated. Thanks

It's a medal. Looks bronze to me, gold would be of lighter in color. Couldn't find it anywhere...

Trudeau was prime minister from 1968-1979, and 1980-1984. The "just society" was one of his ideals- shown by the chain of hands and arms going around the rim. The map's focus on Canada was also important- the 20th Century was to be Canada's.
There is a symbol at the point of the bust, that I cannot see clearly. It could be a mint symbol, or a designer's mark. The medal could be a Canadian Mint issue, or some private Mint issue. I have no idea of its value, but it is a nice piece. I can remember the Trudeaumania, and his famous finger. Many things in Canada changed with Trudeau, some for the better, some not.

There's one in the National Medal Collection of Canada:

Looks like they don't know where it came from, either.

thanks philadelphian.
well it says its gold so it must hold some value. I suppose with an item like this the only value it does hold is in the metal itself?

I'm assuming you have one, then. Try showing it off in our forum's Canadian territory and see what they think. And welcome!

HI -- I was just given one in a lot of coins I got -- exactly the same as the one shown -- I can find no info on it either. Under magnification I found a very small area on edge where the gold plating is chipped -- looks like bronze underneath.

I just found this thread. I see these regularly on ebay as I have a saved search for Trudeau in coins, but I'm looking for the de Pedery-Hunt medals. Next time I see one I'll post here.

Ah, well, here's a "silver" version that sold for $20:

And a bronze version sold for $30:

It doesn't appear to be a terribly common medal, but the primary value will be the metal.

Hi,

I have one of these as well. No idea where I got it from.

The mark at the base of the bust says "CANART DIE"

The second link posted by chequer had the seller stating:

"CAN ART DIES mint mark (Lombardo mint)..."

Lombardo Mint:
