Here is a worn 1858 Flying Eagle cent. Can anyone tell if this is a large letter or small letter coin from the scan? I'm not an expert on these coins. I think it's a large letter but am not sure. Thanks for your help.

Your FE cent appears to be a Large Letter variety.

Check out Johnny "Countdown"'s amazing FE collection. He shows nice examples of both types of 1858.

I am pretty sure its large letters, but the key, as I'm sure you know, is the A and M in AMERICA, which is obliterated. I'm just going based off the fact that the letters we can see do appear to be big, but different dies produced slightly different results so I wouldn't say 100% for sure its LL.

I don't believe there actually is a difference in the size of the letters between the two varieties. The "large" letters is just closer together at the AM and the letters touch.

I agree that it's large letters.
