I need help IDing this two letter mint mark on this Licinius I. The obverse is worn, but the reverse isn't to bad. The second letter looks like and K but I can't seem to make out the first letter.

This confused me for quite a while but I think I now have it.

Initially I thought it was a very poorly stamped 'RP' from Rome but I could not get this to fit with an unbroken Licinius legend ending in 'AVG' - something your coin seems to have.

I think its Diocletian or Maximian rather than Licinius, they had unbroken legends and also style-wise their busts would be a better match. The reverse legend is 'VOT XX FK'. Its probably RIC VI 37a/b or 38 - it could be one of a few others or even a not in RIC depending on what the complete legend is.

A few examples here:

'FK' stands for Felix Karthago and seems to have been used by the Carthage mint to signify some kind of celebration in 303AD. Info on the net is sketchy about these so let me know if you think I'm right and then we can see if we can get it down to a single RIC number. Its an interesting and scarce coin, nice find .

Thanks Bobby.

The obverse legend is very difficult to read but I thought I was able to make out the letters LIC which made me think it was Licinius. But I can see where it is more likely Diocletian. I was sure about the second letter of the MM, but that first letter seemed odd. Thanks again Bobby.
