I wanted to post to this thread to let you know some of us are looking, but I'm sorry, I do not recognize this coin. I am not a Byzantine expert or collector, but I do not think this is Byzantine. Perhaps someone else will chime in to let us know.

It is medieval Indian - definitely a Chola - probably RajaRaja Chola.

I agree that this is from Southern India. It may be the type that dougsmit presented a link for, but it also looks a lot like some Sri Lankan coins I have seen. So either way, it is definitely a medieval Tamil coin.
