I don't normally bother with proof strikes, but I saw this proof set today, and fell in love with the sunset orange gem toning on the 5c coin. I noticed a lot of 1982 proof sets do have toned 5c pieces, I wonder if they are slightly copper-rich...

The photo does not really do this coin justice, toning is a difficult beast to photograph.

I just checked mine, but no such luck on the toning! I will have to check others that I find when I am next able.

Oh yes, these nickels will tone very nicely. They are 75% copper 25% nickel.

^^^ Great picture C.C. That's a great Canadian design - I love the 5 cent. Great picture of one.

I think the beaver and detail looks better in pure nickel (pre 1982) coins. The modern metal ones are the worst and the coating layer makes it even worse.

I found the 2x2 distracting in my first photo... so I messed around with backgrounds (black, white, grey) and found this to be better (since I cannot edit my first post now).
