I have heard from my brother that there is such a thing as a 1966. 50c in gold, I am interested in these as I have heaps of the silver ones and would love a matching set. Did the government actually circulated gold 1966 50c? If so, how much would it be worth now? And does someone have one for sale or trade? Edited by Hem 10/23/2011 12:26 am

2006 Fine Silver proof set 40th Anniversary of decimalisation http://www.ramint.gov.au/designs/pu...tissue65.pdfRRP was: $230.00 Mintage 6,500 2006 GOLD VERSION Only mentioned here price was unknown? Mintage 300! http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/pres...20060502.cfm1966 80% silver coins were made for circulation, mint sets of many varieties and proof sets. They never made gold ones for circulation. If you want a gold round 50 cent you can only get it in the 2006 set, and you would be paying a pretty penny for it. Heres a picture of an elusive set Hope this helps you :)

I have the proof silver version of this set. One of the very few NCLT's I have included in my collection.

Thanks for the pic. Nope not my auction, I am only interested in the 1966 50c not on any other part of the set. So the RRP is 7500 is that in a web site? Or private sale?

The RRP of $7,500 was the purchase price from the Mint in 2006. If you want to buy it now you would have to go through a coin dealer, auction house or ebay. According to the latest Macca's guide the current value is $8,500 but the gold price has gone up a bit since then. But in answer to your original question. No, there was never a 1966 50c in gold.

I wish I owned the set pictured, alas it is hem9's from silver stackers. And it is the only one I have ever seen pictured. He must be one luck person to own it.

All the RAM Commemorative Gold Sets are 99.99% Gold (24ct). They were issued in 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010. The 2006 set includes 1c and 2c coins, all other sets have 5c to $2 inclusive and has an AGW of 4.194oz. The other sets vary between 3.684oz for the 2001 and 3.651 for the 2010 set.

thx for the lightning reply. At 99.99 you wouldnt want to touch them! They'd be sensitive as all hell.

just like the fine silver sets, each coin is sealed / encapsulated in hard plastic - requires hammer and chisel to remove and you have to be real careful not to scratch the coins... (trust me, kids, don't try this at home).
