About a week ago I was the high bidder on ebay for a 1/10 oz. gold Eagle (1999). I paid via PayPal right away, and I received notice that it would be shipped right away. Fast forward to today, about 2:00 p.m. We were sitting at the kitchen table playng cribbage while the turkey was in the oven. We heard a commotion at the front door, and by the time I got there, I saw a man getting back into a USPS truck. He had left one of those slim cardboard Priority Mail envelopes in the door. Inside was the gold coin. But what was the Post Office doing delivering it on Christmas day? Priority Mail isn't the same thing as Special Delivery, is it? Do they do that normally? Or was this postal worker so bored that he decided to bring it over to my house? (I'm only 5 blocks from the post office.) Well, anyway, Merry Christmas to me, I guess.

WOW I Think the only thing I would get on Christmas from the post office if they were working would be some lovely Bills and I am not talking about the ones I collect either LOL

I know my dadbern mailman was closed today, maybe he sent it Registered Mail and well if its at a Post Office they will definately want it out of there because its got to be signed for with each set of hands it goes in so if they signed for it and they are close to your home they will deliver it them self to make sure it gets there without a shadow of a doubt

If its registered it also has to be signed for by the recipient,, not left stuck in the door. I know that the post office is closed on Christmas day ,, perhaps this piece of mail was left in the truck by accident on Saturday,, and the delivery man has a conscience ? at any rate its a nice Christmas day surprise ,, and all is well that ends well !! Our mailman would not deliver mail any day if he had the choice. Usually we get the mail at about 7:30PM every day, whereas the old mailman had it delivered every morning. What time do you guys get your mail delivered on a weekday?

I figured the best way to find out about this was to call the post office. They said they do not normally deliver priority mail on holidays.
However, yesterday they had more people working (who had volunteered to, probably for double time and a half) so they could get as many packages delivered as possible. The woman I talked to said, "We just wanted to do a good thing."
A sort of Christmas miracle, I think.

Here in northern Michigan a postal worker commented on the news about packages being delivered for christmas. She stated they would be working and delivering anything that looked like a present. I guess someone at te post office woke up on the right side of the bed.

Well, I told them the guy was wearing a red shirt and if they could identify him, to thank him for me. In addition, the woman I talked to at the post office was genuinely surprised that I was a happy customer -- I'll bet they get the raw end of it sometimes when things don't arrive by Christmas. Newdavid -- where are you? I'm down near Lansing.
