Hi bought this coin.
Don't know much about it.
Material: Bronze?
It's 32mm diameter, and about 2-3mm thick
Can someone tell me value, who made it and anything that might be interesting.

Noble Numismatic
Sale 91 (2009)
Lot 1067

Your token is listed a long with 35 other items with an estimate of $100.

If it was worth anything, I'm sure it'd be listed singually.

-- Just followed it through, the lot sold for $80. - not sure your token would have appreciated much since 2009.

Noticed on past ebay results, one sold for $20, and another sold for $56 with seller claiming it was made of gold!

One of the members of my coin club recently wrote a couple of articles about the exonumia produced by the Australian Gold Exchange in Melbourne, and an apparently related company in Adelaide. The company was the forerunner of those "we buy your gold" booths you see in shopping malls these days. The "coins" were, I believe, giveaways to customers. At about the same time they also made "three buck note" advertising flyers. The company apparently still exists but has a much lower profile these days.

The "coins" I have seen aren't bronze, nor gold, but they are yellowish in colour, either brass or gilt. I don't own one but I have seen them on offer in dealer's display cases for $15 to $20.

Hi thanks for the reply's. Good to know that it wasn't a total overspend.
I actually paid $6 for it. I found one last night in a dealer catalogue for $10 and if $2 is wholesale and $10 retail, average is around $6. Few!
I bought I because it looked interesting, the word "3 bucks" is cool, a nice novelty.
Great to find out what the coin is made from, brass or gilt.
Thanks for the info, I would love to be able to see the article that your coin club wrote about it.
I think the company in Melbourne is either one of these, unfortunately they don't have websites.

I made several long replies to the topic about the Australian Gold Exchange three buck token but none appeared on the site. Before I spend another hour rewriting the replies, I'll wait and see if this test appears correctly!

Regarding Australian Gold Exchange 1986 token. I am the former owner of Australian Gold Exchange (founded 1983, sold in 1987 to David Secchi). I now live in France where I buy and sell coins and jewellery. I had 10,000 of these tokens struck in 1986 by Stokes of Melbourne, they cost me 80 cents at the time and I sold all of them for 3 dollars each, a cool profit. They were the sequels to the three buck note that I used at the time for a business card which some collectors will probably know of. At the time, the director of Stokes confided to me the secret news that Stokes had struck some of the ten dollar coins for the Royal Australian Mint to cover the shoretfall due to a strike. This was not known at the time and not mentioned in the Rennicks coin quide so I wrote an article for the Australian Coin Review which I hope led to updates in the coin guide I wish all Aussie collectors the best from here in France, Mike F.

I seen this 3 dollar note on display in someone's collection today and I had never seen or herd of it before so I tried to find out about it but this is the only place I found that might know about this note since there have been questions about the same thing in a coin

Hello and welcome. You'll see I mentioned these notes in my earlier post from five years ago, and the original owner and producer of these notes also mentioned them when he posted above too.

The piece you've shown has certainly seen better days, and has been visited by more than a few silverfish. The paper used to print these would have been ordinary printer's paper, not banknote paper, so they would not be expected to be as durable as a real note.

The article I mentioned reports that there are several different varieties, with different messages and contact details on the other side.
