First let me say I don't "really" collect Canadian coins. I get a few in change and keep them, and I have a couple of albums, but I am not actively collecting them most of the time.

However, on a whim I bought a "lot" of canadian cents. About 50. And they were almost all duplicate dates, with about 1/2 being 1932.

I looked at the mintage and value of 1932 and didnt seem to find anything terribly special, to make someone collect that many of 1 year... so now I am thinking. In the US we have the Cherrypicker's guide... is there a similar book for canadian cents? I'm just curious and have a "gut instinct" there's something here.

It could be that was a date that meant something to the prior collector, perhaps a birth year--- but maybe there's a special variety.

Anyone know? I'd be happy to purcase a book if needed I'm always good with that

Hi. 1932 is the most common of the George V cents. I have a whole roll culled from circulation when I was a kid (I'm 63) The key dates are 1922,23,24 and 25. These are worth a little. As I recall 1926 is a better one as well.

I had seen the charltons book referenced before, but it seems more like a US red book-- ie a general guide to all coins. Is there not a big "die variety" collector base in Canadian coinage?

Unfortunately...the US small cents have the Canadian Small cents beat when it comes to die varieties. There is so much to look for and with the Cherry Pickers Guide and Coppercoins.com as well as a few other websites...your available reference material is great. While we do have some notable die varieties for Canadian Small cents...we have limited reference material for them. Take a look at http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php for a decent online reference for Canadian coins. You can select coins by individual dates to get information available for that particular coin. Charlotns guides are great as mentioned but I use the site I mentioned above as it is readily available to all and I only have 1 Charlton Guide. :)

Hope it helps.
