With the death of Gerald Ford last night we are assured that both he and Reagan will be included in the series.

Correction....Carters still in there.

Why wouldn't Reagan be included anyway?

I covered Ford's visit to Grand Junction (Colorado), for our local newspaper, back about 1974.

Gerald Ford always seemed like a good and decent man. He was our oldest President.

Now that he's gone, I guess we'll have a Betty Ford gold coin sometime in the future.

I think you are right.

To me, it would make more sense to just add a new coin after each President goes to his/her reward.

Am I correct in saying that Gerald Ford was the only person to become president without being elected to the presidency or vice presidency?

He was appointed Vice President (by Nixon) after Spiro Agnew had to resign in disgrace. When Nixon resigned in disgrace, Gerald stepped into the presidency without being elected to either office.

A side note: Gerald Ford was on the famous "Warren Commission" on the assination of JFK.

Just some more info:

Living presidents, both current and former, are excluded from the program—thus the roster of presidential honorees currently stands at 37. For these presidents, 38 coins are planned; this is because Grover Cleveland, who to date is the only president to serve multiple nonconsecutive terms, will be represented with two coins.

Ford will be coin #38. The second coin of 2016. If Carter passes in the next 8 years(June 2014?) then he will be #39 and Reagan will be #40.
