to add to the topic- some banks have more requests for change than they collect from their customers- these are the ones that get the new coins from the mint. Others take in more change from their customers than they have to supply- these are the one that will probably not have the new coins. I deal with 4 RBC's, 2 of them are great for getting in used coins, one of them is great for getting new coins, and the other gets the new coins, but has a head teller who actively discourages any teller's interest in the new coins. I supply new coins from the one branch to the tellers at 2 other banks, and give them information about the availability of the coins at the mint site. In return I have received interesting bills, nickel and a few silver dollars and half dollars (The owners of these had already been advised that they were worth much more than face value but they just wanted paper money -face value- for these)

First of all I want to thank everyone who has responded to this post. I certainly have learned a lot from you all.
What I see from this discussion that is important if one is trying to obtain coins from circulation sources is;

1. Be kind and courteous to the tellers a the bank, this could make the difference whether you get what you are looking for or not
2. Deal with or visit different banks as some are more likely to have the source material you are looking for than others.
3. Keeping looking in your change for that elusive coin as it is probably the best place it will turn up.
4. If all else fails find a seller and pay the going rate to obtain the coin you wish to add to your collection.

I had a good feeling when I first joined up to this forum that this was a great site to get information from the pros and learn more about coin collecting.

I have not been disappointed.
