1917.
The shield rivets are too strong and the dress curl is large and to low to be a 1916.

I agree with CD_god, As I posted in the other thread, it is definitely a 1917. The article he referred to is what really has me intrigued since I owned that coin a couple of years ago.

I just sent this message to the seller; Quote:Hi Salvageman1983! Just an FYI for you, the coin listed is definitely NOT a 1916 Standing Liberty quarter. The diagnostics for this coin, even in a P-01 condition, are discernable enough to see that this coin is a 1917 type I SLQ. The shield rivets, even on an AU 1916, are barely detectable and your coin shows them distinctly. The drapery over the left "bulkhead" drops behind on the 1916 and in front on the 1917. Yours shows in front. And the bulkhead details (excused (projecting up from the surface), and extremely subject to wear on the 1916/incused (down into the coin) on the 1917) are way too distinctive for the coin to be anything but a 1917. Not to be harsh, but there is no chance of your coin being a 1916. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. God bless! Moe

NICE touch, Moe! (PS - Sorry johnny54321, I was totally oblivious to the part of YOUR post that referenced this coin or I would not have started this thread. I guess my eye was drawn only to the part about your 1916 being in Coin World. My bad!)

Wow, that image is hard to read and I'm not even color blind. The JPG is way over-compressed and makes the text nearly illegible... I'll try to make better versions. I could stand to learn the diagnostics better myself.

I tried to blow them up. (I know the captions are still red...) Maybe this will help... 1916 SLQ Characteristics 1917 SLQ Characteristics

Wow, I thought I had the 1916 features nailed down completely, but I just learned a new diagnostic. I never noticed the difference in the wall before!

OK, here are my versions with readable text. I hope nod2003 doesn't mind that I used his photos. They are nicely matched in terms of wear, photo size, lighting, etc. so they are good for side-by-side comparisons. Everyone please double-check my spelling!

Quote: I was just about to post the same thing. I never paid attention to the walls, usually just the robe curl and the rivets. Yeah, the walls are another really good diagnostic when there is a lot of wear visible. On higher grade examples, the difference isn't as obvious.

The article references the July 2011 Heritage auction. Magazines usually claim 1-2 months in advance issue dates on the cover. So I would say the issue is probable August 2011 to present which would probably be December issue on the newstands which would narrow it down to 5 issues. you could probably go to your local newstand or Barnes and Noble and rule out the current issue if it is not in there.
