Hello All,

Was looking for a little help with this 1807. It has some characteristics from a couple of varieties which aren't supposed to go together. The obverse has the Die Cud under the 7 like the O-114 but also has a few die cracks. The reverse of the coin is riddled with them like the O-113a

Any Ideas on the variety?

Thanks
Ben

Looks like an 1807 O-114 variety. If that is a small lump under the "7" in the date, and another between star #11 and the denticles, then I'm right.

Your correct about the lumps, it's the die-cracks on the reverse which has me baffled.

Thanks for looking

I agree that it looks like an O-114 - especially with the arrowheads joined the way they are. I don't know how to explain the die cracks unless it's just a very late die stage and was one of the last minted from those dies.

Ben:
Very nice, still, it may need submission to be installed as O-114a, to denote the late die state.

I'm afraid that's where I've come up against a brick-wall. Not enough coins to be eligible for membership with the BHNC and have no connections to lobby for inclusion. This is the 2nd coin which I feel needs to be included as a separate die-state, the first being my 1808/7 O-101 without die-cracks.

Alas...

Ben:
Don't lobby with the BHNC write directly to Parsley, Overton's son-in-law,who wrote the most recent edition.
I'll back you up for admission to the BHNC, if I can ever get in myself.
I know that you have to have 100 different varieties before you apply for admission, I only have 69 pieces, plus another (about) 6 duplicates.
So, some day, I hope.
How many do you have?

First of all I want to let you know how happy I am your daughter is better, We had a scare here back in November when my youngest had her appendix removed and then caught (what I think was) Whooping Cough at the hospital. Meghan is 13 and it still terrified me.

I think your coin is a Overton, O-103.

God Bless

hmm I was thinking LDS 113 but I am no expert, if you say 103 then 103 it must be. I was terrified, she was up all night Tuesday and and we took her to the doctors Wednesday and they said take her to the hospital, well we stayed there wednesday night and Thursday they transfered her to Charlotte because she was doing so bad. Wednesday she was doing horribly bad, she woke us up one time and you could actually see her chest collapsed and she couldn't breathe and we had to put the oxygen on her again. It was a rough few days and there were times I questioned the doctors ability to make her better but never questioned the ability of prayer and that is why it means so much to me when I came to the site and saw all the comments that was made here on the forum
