Nice looking bunch of recent acquisitions, especially turingmach's gorgeous Morgans! I won this half at auction yesterday. Makes me happy as I've been looking for a decent 1838 since I started collecting. It's a PCGS-53 Gr-13 variety (not scarce) with a nice die break circling part of the reverse.  |

Nice find Ron! Just arrived in hand today. White spots on holder are reflection. Seller pics show a more orange toning. In hand it has a mostly green toning.   |

I picked up 24 large cents today. Not going to post them all, but here is one of the nicest out of the lot, an 1823/2 Large Cent graded EAC 8 (net 6) by Col. Ellsworth. It's not problem free (reverse scratches) but I looked at 8 others from 300-2500 and this was the only one without a porous planchet! I'll take the pretty obverse and smooth planchet with a couple of reverse pin scratches over the higher sharpness coins with porous flans any day. This is a pricey coin in any grade, but what's weird is that the NON-overdate (1823) is actually not only much scarcer than the overdate (1823/2) it's priced orders of magnitude higher. I now have a complete date set of Large Cents except for 1793, 1795, 1796, 1799, and 1804, and none of those are likely to happen anytime soon. It is darker (and browner) in hand, and the reverse scratches are lighter than they appear in the photo. I finally got a San Francisco FBL Franklin! Although I messed up - Heritage had already gone to live auction when I bid so what I thought was my top price ended up being my bid. I won it, but could've done so at a cheaper price. Oh well, live and learn.  |

Yesterday @ ANA NMS 2018 in Irving, TX Our club table was across the aisle from CONECA so I showed it to one of them, but after puzzling for a while, he decided it made his head hurt too much to think about! It was, in everyone's defense after 4pm. First - the reverse clearly shows an about 10% off-center strike:  Not sure what's up at the rim between K11 and K12 - almost looks like another planchet was pressed down. There's something weird going on with that break in the copper plating from between the E and C up to MER. Obverse:  There is evidence of another planchet obliterating part of the strike. There is also a little bit of rim impression from K6 to K8. Is there evidence of letters from another reverse around K2? I need a better photo (stack) to be sure... What year? Well, we can be sure it was 1982 or newer because it's a ZLincoln. We also can be sure it was no later than 1986. How? Nice pick up of the 1823/2 Large Cent, paralyse. Overdates are fun. I wouldn't have even noticed the rev scratches if you hadn't mentioned it.

Very nice Franklin with original surfaces, Coronet1832! I can appreciate your pricing error on HA. I made a similar mistake at their last big auction. Sometimes, it's the only way to win, lol.

Just got this yesterday in the mail, off of ebay. Counterstamped but at a great price so it fills a hole in my Whitman date album perfectly. It's only my second 1700's coin I ever owned.   |
