Absolutely NOT. There's won't be anything left of it. This poor coin has seen enough.

I'm not saying you should sandblast the coin. That white stuff has got to go IMO. The reverse would be clearly discernible and the obverse would still show enough of a date. The horrible orange blob look that one would usually abhor would be a step up in this case.

I actually doubt this coin has been circulating for 102 years. It would have been thrown away long ago. It was probably dug out of the ground by someone somewhat recently and the person just decided it wasn't worth keeping. I would still have kept it, hell, it's probably worth at least $1. Great find though. You might be the only person this decade to find an 09-S out of a roll, I haven't heard of another, just metal detecting reports.
Rest in Peace

The previous owner probably set it free to die on its own rather than killing it. RIP

Wow - thats certainly got character. I like coins liek this because it shows its age and it isn't prohibitively expensive to acquire.

I went looking for a value and found this 1909s on completed listings for £70 - now, call me crazy, but that looks a lot like a VBD to me.

I need that coin for my second Lincoln set. I'll give you $5.00 and a Hot Wheels car for it.
