What a nice rare find !But.....ummm.....yeah......the grade might be somewhere "south" of G-4 ! .... But who cares ? ...... It's still a good find for roll hunting ! It could clean up "some" too, maybe.....but the pits and rims are beyond help !

Fortunately DrDon is not in the Secret Santa list this year. Imagine opening that gift up... :)

It's a shame the thing looks like it took a bath in battery acid, but wow, finding a 09 S in a roll ? Amazing regardless of the condition.

I cant believe you guys are really making fun of this....I would be the happiest roll hunter in the world to come across any condition 1909 penny. if it is that big of a black eye on your collection, I will take it. Would certainly fill a hole in my dansco album, and I'd have no problem setting it in there either

While its condition may contributed to its appearance in a roll, I still call it a win. Nice find.

You know, this is one of the few coins I would probably recommend giving a cleaning to. Even a harsh cleaning. The coin is already a PO-1, and that's just because the 'POS-0' designation doesn't exist.
You might be able to get rid of all that white crap and be left with a bright orange pitted damaged barely discernible 09-S, but at least one that won't give you a disease holding it.
Nice find though

Quote: You know, this is one of the few coins I would probably recommend giving a cleaning to. Even a harsh cleaning. Absolutely NOT. There's won't be anything left of it. This poor coin has seen enough. The ONLY thing I would consider is leaving on a windowsill to retone a little.
