Requesting data from someone more resourceful than I:

Original US Mint issue prices of
1987 $5 AGE BU
based on the packaging, I'm pretty sure the Mint did sell them directly at this time. It came in a heavy us mint box and felt case.

1987 $1 Constitution Bicentennial Proof Commemorative

TIA

Anyone?

A Declaration of Independence commem has never been issued. The only 1989 commem was the Bicentennial of Congress. Are you perhaps referring to the 1987 Constitution commem?

Also, the investment grade bullion Eagles have never been directly sold by the US Mint due to the fluctuating nature of precious metals prices. Since inception, they have only been available from dealers.

Yes, thanks for the correction. I meant the 1987 Constitution Commem. I was going by memory--which fails in stunning fashion from time to time.

As for the BU AGE, I know the Mint doesn't sell them directly now, but I really do think they sold them directly in '87. Does anyone remember this for sure?

Well, I was taking my 1987 $5 AGE out of its "US Mint" packaging just now in order to get some pictures to upload. The nice cardboard box, the nice felt/steel case, the COA...what's this on the back of the COA?

quote:
American Eagles are isssued by the United States Mint without packaging. This Luxurious packaging was created especially for American Eagles available from your financial institution.

So it's a spoof of US Mint packaging. Oh well, you were correct after all...Thanks for your help.
