well I picked up a well circulated version of the coin above today for scrap price and noticed it had the eagles head missing at mid neck.
there is the slightest ghost imprint of where the eagles head is suppose to be but no head, and it is dark toned there as is most of the other low spots on the coin so if it was post mint it was long ago.
when my wife gets home I will get her to scan a image of it , but right now I cant figure the scanner out.

well my wife taught me how to start the scanner and here is the coin

someone cut off the head, you can tell by the scratches where the head should be

i wonder why some one would do that? but stranger things have happened, oh well it is worth the $5 I gave for it anyway I hope! thanks for the input!

Maybe he was just trying to get ahead. Ever see the street signs that say, "look ahead." I always look, but I never see a head.

i have just noticed that the scratched head appears to be an attempt to give the eagle a head the scratches run through the black toning, and you can see the image of the more correct turned down baek of the eagle below the straight beek that appears
