Hello, I found this in Bank roll. After a little research online
I did find out that the ORIGINAL Design by David Brenner was
without "In God We Turst".Also 2 Presidents (Roosevelt and Taft) had
look at Designs with Motto missing "In God We Trust".Roosevelt had
approved the Design and left the office.Taft choose the one with the
Motto "In God We Trust" My source:PGCS history, and Wikipidi online.
There were also short runs made of various types and left the MINT
to show to Elite Congress people of the time.

From the Letter by LEACH (Chief of the MINT) to David Brenner a
brief description shows that the HEAD of Linclon was touching the
Top of the coin, that he did not lower it when asked...But LEACH
asked someone else to do it,and a empty space occured up to be
filled. Thus, the Motto "In God We Trust" to Balance the coin. Also
Brenner was asked by LEACH to take out his Initals on the Back
and he said "I'll put them in front by the coat jacket! All this
in TEST RUNS of the Lincoln Penny! What I see S Mint Mark doubling
and Lincolns Jacket overlapping on the Edge, and Top Head too high
for a normal Linclon Design. And no "In God We Trust"!

Friends my Question? Is this a TEST RUN Penny? How Rare? Worth?
The is Great for a coin of this Age.Clear ONE CENT and United
States of America Clear (no VDB).I can read Pluberus, too

Your picture needs to be a lot clearer and in more detail before the pros here will make a judgement call. In my amateur opinion though you have a desireable but otherwise normal 1909 S. The lack of "in God we trust" seems to me simply to be worn off. Notice the rim of your coin is completely worn off. That rim is the only thing protecting the moto from being worn off. So to me if the rim is worn smooth, it is logical the moto would be as well.

IGWT is definitely there, just very worn, but I am not even sure that is a 1909 date

Biokemist, now that you mention it I see what you are saying. I assumed it was based on the OP. On closer examination the pic looks more like a 1940

In God We Trust is definitely there. this coin is AG-03 so those border details are worn off.

Definately a 19-forty-something... to the community by the way... BTW, all Lincoln cents were made with the motto...

I'd have to have a better image to determine the date on this one. I see where people are getting the 194x, but I'm not willing to go that far. I'm reasonablly sure that it's not a 1909 or 191x.

Lincolncentguy... I agree... this sounds strangly like the guy who's selling the 8 million dollar penny on ebay.

Just worn, and even if it was a test run or pattern, it would have been a Philadelphia coin not a branch mint piece.
