Picked up this bill recently, and I am not currency- literate - is this a nice bill, or is it junk because of the ink on it? How much does the ink reduce it in grade, and value?

Probably worth about $150 in that condition!

coinsearcher83 - thank you for your response. As indicated in my initial post, I know very little about collecting paper currency - been collecting U.S. coins for quite some time now, but I've only recently developed an interest in paper - don't know if it's just a whim, or if it's something that's going to last, but, over a period of time, I've picked up eleven notes/certificates - an 1880 $1.00 U.S. Note, an 1891 $1.00 Treasury Note, an 1899 Silver Certificate (Black Eagle), an 1899 $2.00 Silver Certificate, a 1914 $10.00 Federal Reserve Note, a 1914 $20.00 Federal Reserve Note, a 1922 $10.00 Gold Certificate, a 1922 $20.00 Gold Certificate, a 1928 $10.00 Gold Certificate, a 1928 $20.00 Gold Certificate, and the 1928 $100.00 Gold Certificate I posted here. I'm kind of all over the board in starting out, and the bills I have are all circulated - some quite a bit - but I kind of like the idea of having them.

^^ yeah, it really doesn't hurt to have them. You never know, someday you might gain more interest in them and they'll make great starters for a collection!

Can you make "whose" signature (at least that is what it looks like to me) that is on the upper right S/N? Someone famous?

100 dollars Gold certificate: that's FIVE double eagles. Face value (then) in current gold values would be more than $8,000.

That's quite a lot of buying power for a banknote.

This is another gold certificate I picked up recently - little better shape than the $100. certificate - at least, there's no writing on it.
Do you think it would grade fine, very fine, or what? And, what kind of value would you place on it? Thanks.

Ralph

I'm thinking VF-ish if there's just that one crease down the middle.. But I'm thinking the scanner probably makes the note look..straighter I guess.. So Fine if it has more creases..

It's amazing how perfectly round those corners are..

I think this note may grade a high F to a low VF. Based on Heritage auction records F-15's seem to sell for roughly 300 and VF-20/25's for roughly the low 400's.
