Take a look at this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1876-S-SILV...em256933b290Then go to NGCCoin.com and run the numbers. The holder is on NGC's site is different than what is in the auction and the coin looks entirely different. Am I seeing things that are not there? Edited by Freedom 11/14/2011 12:31 pm

I think what your seeing is the light reflecting off the e-bay coin. I have looked at them side by side and that is the only difference that I see.

It is the same coin, the light is hitting the holograms at different angles in the two photo sets. Notice the matching dark mark two stars below the olive branch and the light scrapes in Liberty's armpit.

Look at the slab. The one on the bay has a different style on it then the one on NGC. The one on the Bay has a label underneath, the one on NGC does not.
It is not the same slab from outwards appearance and the coin on NGC, to me appears to be lacking in the detail that is showing on the one on the Bay.

with the others...it's the same coin. Since NGC provided pics, let's forget the slab, each coin is unique...like a fingerprint. The ebay picture and NGC's picture show the same pattern of toning and marks--here's a quick comparo:

Ok, Lets assume (I know) that the coins are the same, explain the slab?

The reverse label is a hologram. Even a slight difference in lighting angle will bring out an entirely different color set.

Ok, I feel like a dumb Sh@t now..... I see what you are saying, I was going to buy it and was verifying the coin. Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I think it's a nice example for the grade, and wouldn't hesitate to join the bidding on it. With 5 seconds left in the auction, as per my usual habit.

To your credit, it's smart to scrutinize every Trade dollar carefully...even ones in slabs.

Good thing the seller took his own pictures. If all I had to go on were pictures I would almost certainly bid more for the coin with his pictures than with the ones NGC took of it. I can understand why you might have thought they were different coins.
