Has anyone here purchased and received one of these sets that has the loonie, toonie and 6 quarters?

I have one on the way that I ordered from Canada Post but just looked at the reviews on the RCM website and most have stated they are poor quality and poor packaging.

For $4.50 worth of coins for $23.95, I would have hoped that the quality would be higher.

Hopefully at least the packaging will be PVC free because if you have to break them out of the package to preserve the coins, it would be better to wait for the face value offerings.

i thought some of the quarters are in sterling silver, or proof finished, but nope, just regular ol' nickel and steel BU coins. Will opt to hunt for them in change as oppose to pay for the packaging

The RCM had a booth with these sets for sale at Nuphilex in Montreal. They are definitely Winnipeg strikes. The Twoonie seemed to be the coin that was 'well struck', the loons were baggy and poor and coloured 25c coins were mediocre.

I hope the RCM Representative takes note. Haven't seen any posts recently.

I think I will forgo any future purchases from them and stick with older stuff in the aftermarket when quality was a priority.

Time to go back to an old avatar too!

I picked up mine a couple of days ago, the loonie has bag(like )marks and is buy far the worst of the set. the colour in the coloured coin is off the mark but other than that ok.

I got my coin set a few days ago. From pictures the mint had up on their website I thought it was going to be a nice set. But the quality just isn't there. My packaging came bent as well.

I have a set on the way too.
It's the only way I can get coins like this.
I have even yet to find just 1 olympic coloured quarter in circulation in my area, and it's been two years since they were put into circulation.

SPP I live in a small town called Ajax(Ontario),just east of Toronto.
I don't know if there are a lot of collectors here or just a fluke but my town never seems to get anything "unusual" or if people just pull said items out of circulation, just because.
Just to keep my collection up to date,(like getting the next year denominations),is really a challenge.
What I mean is,Let's say I need a 2012 quarter to finish off my quarter book.It MAY take up to 2013 to find one(in circulation)
See what I mean.
As I said anything unusual, like the coloured quarters for example is pretty well out of the question.

Just for a foot-note it is easier to find a 1939 or 1942(tombac)nickel,which I did just recently.
I am sorry if it sounds like I'm hijacking this thread.I didn't mean to.JUST SPOUTING OFF.(I tend to ramble on sometimes)

RCM> Glad to see you are still here and trying to help.

I received my set today.

Here are my comments:

In my opinion the coin quality was "OK"..not great but not horrible. No particular coin stood out to me as being better or worse than the others, however not near as good as the older uncirculated sets I have.

The transparent packaging appears to be the same or similar to that used in the regular 2011 uncirculated set. That, I would say, is a good thing because I don't believe there are any PVC issues that I am aware of. However it does not look comparable to that pictures on the RCM website. The photos imply that that they are in a more rigid holder with the loonie and toonie in a holder with only two slots. In reality the loonie and toonie are in the same holder as the quarters except they are in the middle with four empty pockets - two on each end.

My recommendation, and granted I am an accountant and not a marketing expert, would be for the RCM to use more realistic representations of their products in their brochures and on their website - maybe use actual photos of the products. That way, customers would receive products that meet their expectations. I have seen this before particularly on the colourised coins that look great on the website but are not near the same quality when up close and personal. I guess though that would mean the actual products would really need to be of high quality to get buyers. At least that would be better than customers feeling "duped" and not wanting to make further purchases.

One other comment, whenever I have ordered RCM products from Canada Post, their external packaging has been superb and protects the products. Several times, when ordered directly from RCM, the external packaging is not sturdy enough and the internal contents get bent, etc. Given the product availability, I would always order from Canada Post because of this and also they never charge for shipping.

Wow Collectall I can't believe that you couldn't find any Olympic coloured quarters in Ajax,so close to Toronto. I come from a community a lot smaller that yours and I'm still seeing the odd one in circulation. However I do work with a till all day so maybe that makes the difference. Still don't give up hope I'm sure some will come your way.

maybe consider roll hunting (buy a few rolls of quarters at the bank to sort through). that's how my wife and I finally finished off our olympic set

Yup,
Just got back to the city, excited to open the mail from the mint and...the quality of coins just wasn't there. Kind of a disappointment. Nothing really special about the set. No real "pop" of the coins for the amount of hype on t.v./radio.

I noticed today that someone is selling these sets on ebay for almost $300 bucks!!!
He is selling them as errors/mules because they have no mint mark

I should offer to sell him my set for $150.00 so he can double his money!

He has the individual coins for sale for equally inflated prices, except the $1 - they are a bargain at $6.99!
