I know that ebay hides behind a let the buyer beware policy, and while I believe collectors need to be knowledgeable, does anyone but me think that auctions of this type are DECEPTIVE?

I also believe it is deceptive.

I just found one of those in a bulk lot I was searching. I took it to work and gave it to another collector. It was fun to see the look on his face when I gave it to him. It took a few seconds for it to sink in that it was practically worthless.

They are great items to give to kids. But you can usually find someone selling these in 5 for a $1 junk boxes.

its not just practically worthless !! it is worthless these coins have been demonitised by the Mexican Government,, and the time available to turn them in for about 1/2 face value has long since passed !!

How many of these do you want,, they are available here in NM by the handfull for a buck?

If you handed that coin to a Mexican Dinner I think they would probably be offended by that action. I think it's kinda lame for that person to even suggest doing it.

I went ahead and sent them an email concerning these coins ,, now we can see what they do with it .

Here is the question I sent

are you aware that these coins have been demonitised in Mexico and that they currently have 0 value ? except as a novelty @ 10 for a dollar .

This is for your information do with it as you please !

Sellers response to my Question

Yes I am aware of that but I sell coins to collectors who need them to complete a collection and not to spend.I can assure the collectors value is more than my asking price. For nothing else they are fun to have if you desire fun.

The coin in question 1987 100 peso in no better than by american standards Good condition does not even make the price guide in Krause

Their values begin at VF-.65 I'm a little disappointed but far from surprised.

Rick

Deceptive? Yes!

Quote: "I would have to wonder what you can buy in Mexico with it."
Answer: Well, wonder no more. You would buy nothing!

Quote: "I guess you could bid up to 99 pesos and still be okay."
Answer: As long as you can pay for this coin with another demonetized 100 peso coin. And as long as you get a genuine one-peso coin as your change.

Quote: "Picture this, you go into place that sells Mexican food and buy dinner then when you check out you hand the cashier one of these $100 peso coins and watch the expression on their face."
Answer: Oh yes indeedy! I can picture the expression on their face. I can also picture your burrito being stuffed down your throat!

I believe this to be deceptive, since the seller conceals part of the truth in order to mislead the buyer into purchasing their coins.
