I have been told this is an 1830 One Yen, but the more I look around on the net, the more I am confused. Can anyone positively identify this coin for me, please. I would like KM# or Y#, denomination, year, grade, and CV. I was also concerned as to whether it is real or not, with what appears to be a filed down section on the coin.

I suppose this could be Japan 4 mon (certainly not a yen) C#4.2 or C#4.2a.The coin bears no date but must be cast between 1769 and 1860.
It must be possible to get more details from Japan experts.

It is a 4 mon, I've got one like that. They're not worth much ($5 around). Though that is an interesting die crack:

Can we call it a mould crack, as these were made in sand moulds, not struck?

The Chinese characters on the coin are:
寛永e€šå¯¶

Chinese Pronunciation: Kuan Yong Tong Bao

Japanese Pronunciation: Kan Ei Tsu Ho

Kan Ei Tsu Ho has a large variety of different versions, minted during 1625--1867
