I would hope that it is not counterfeit. I bought it off of a dealer who I've been seeing at the coin show for the past 4 months. He is a very nice guy and even told me to beware of counterfeits before buying coins off ebay or other raw coins. I like the idea of the flaw in the original planchet.

My goal with collecting is to collect as many different types of US coins as possible. I don't really care about years, key dates, or varieties as much. And I thought this one was perfect for my album right next to the Seated Liberty half. I have 5 coupons for free grading at ANACS but I'm not sure if I should send it in. I prefer raw coins over slabbed so I can display them all in the same binder. (Although I'm sure jbuck would suggest sending it in, then breaking out of the slab).

I'm wondering if anyone else has an opinion on grade or the "oddity" the superdave pointed out.

It does not look right to me, with the pitted fields and very soft impression I feel that this coin is a cast fake.

Would a cast fake have the lettering on the edge?

The half dollar in this ebay sale has shading in the same areas that mine shows wear.

Hi! I'm a novice. How do you determine if sm. or lg. letters?

This coin does not look genuine to me.
