I bought this one along time ago and I was wondering what you all thought the grade might be. I am thinking AU50 because of small hair lines though-out (they don't photograph).

Based on the photos I would say MS-61/MS-62 but if hairlines are present that probably means it has been wiped and would be considered an AU Details coin

There are three small "hair line" scratch marks on the obverse. I do not believe there is evidence of cleaning. My main concern with the coin is what appears to be ware on the hair lines but this might be a weak strike?

Those lines are probably just bag contact.

Pictures aren't perfect but I suspect this is an MS example with weak strike (common for 1889), some luster grazes, and some bag marks.

My first impression is it looks like a solid coin, but I copied the coin and noticed a few things which lead me to think its an AU coin and not a slider/MS coin...while in your photo the coin looks nice for luister appeal, I noticed around the mouth and chin, there appears to be some flatness as well as with the cotton bolls, they are flat as well as the ear hair which can be flat with a weak strike, how ever the rest/ other mentioned areas are lower on the coin and usually not flat in appearance with a flat struck coin, Same with the reverse, nice luster, with wear on the breast feathers, I'm thinking AU53ish...as I'm most flat struck coins on the reverse the legs are devoid of detail, were your chest and legs still have some slight..definition...

Photos aren't everything, but I am seeing an MS 62 weak strike with nice cartwheel
