Last Friday, the U.S. Mint revealed the design for the 2012 Native American dollar. The theme will be "Trade Routes in the 17th Century," and the coin features the side profile of a Native American and a horse, with horses galloping in the background. In my opinion, this is much better than this year's peace pipe design and is probably better or second-best to 2010's bundle of arrows design. A release date has yet to be announced, but it will probably be in February or March, 2012.

I like it. I've really begun to like the Sac. dollars. Still not a fan of how the "gold" coins begin to look after being circulated, but the designs are nice.

The Sacagawea series is really my favorite circulating coin. I think the tarnishing issue is a great selling point for me because twenty or thirty years from now who knows how many choice specimens will be left. Also, imagine the fantastic toning on this untried metal.

I enjoy the collecting them as well, I've got to bite the bullet and start buying the years they didn't hit circulation. I really like the new design, I voted for that design, glad to see they were listening to me. lol Can't wait to see it in hand. Thanks for posting.

I do like the Native American dollar coins much more the President dollar coin series.

I hope they do a job at translating the drawing to the coin itself.

I've already seen this rendition before and REALLY REALLY like it ! .........
The only design I don't care for is the "Corn Planter" one.
I know how important/vital "corn" was......but it's just a boring design to me.

Who knows ? When it's all said and done...... Maybe this series will end up being a sleeper series of some kind/level ?
Maybe not so much with having any real "keys"......but like with what was mentioned with "condition" ! ....
A nice BU and Proof Set could really be something to have someday !
A special "Silver" Native Dollar would be nice to have in this collection too......wonder if that'll ever happen ?
20th Anniversary of the coin or something ?

The Native American dollars really have excellent designs, all in all. Quite a breath of fresh air, compared to the bland, decades-old designs on far too many of our coins.

Too bad almost no one who isn't a coin collector will ever see one.

I also like this design. It's got me thinking about picking up a Dansco album and starting a collection. I don't really need another series to collect, but I might as well get started now while there are only about ten years worth of coins to collect.

This is by far the best design so far in my opinion. I have them all in proof as well. Can't wait to see it in hand.

I'll get a proof set and an extra proof for my 7070. I like the design. I have a P&D set but I may need to start the proofs. That 2001 is kind of tough though but no worse than $20 I think.

I was thinking the same, the 2012 Sacagawea dollar type for the 7070.

Nice design, now the Mint is getting "it," with more dynamic and less traditional designs. The first three years of the Native American reverses were good, this '12 design is letting the series finally hit its stride. Too bad this will not be made in proof or uncirculated silver like the "Lucky Loonies" next door.

That horse reminds me of Petey from the little rascals.

I love the 2012 Native reverse

Too bad about the new Direct Ship $12.50 surcharge...

I'll get "D" business strike coins at the Denver Mint Gift Shop (at face value).
Since 2009, Denver's been minting the bulk of the current-year Native Dollars in January.
From early Jan. to mid Feb., you can get the BU business strike Native Dollars from the Gift Shop.
After the year's first Pres. Dollar comes out (in mid Feb.), you'll get Pres. Dollars until December,
unless you happen to catch them in a week where they minted more Natives to meet the "20%" requirement.
