Just bought this and thought I would share it - I've not seen one before.

Notice the retrograde 'S' and 'N's on the obverse. The reverse is generally pretty good with the style not too out of place apart from the varying font sizes. If this was copied from an official coin it would probably have been a Galerius from London given the lack of field marks and the 'NOBIL CAES' ending.

I like it! Do you think it is struck or cast? On the opposite corner of the empire there are clay molds found and coins they produced. I don't have a mold but have a cast coin. When you get something with style differences like yours, one has to wonder if the coin was a money of necessity for use beyond the edge of Roman law and coin supplies rather than criminal intent (which is what I believe caused mine to be made). One thing they have in common is the variation in letter sizes.

Interesting coin. It does look like it might be cast based on how porous it looks.

Not sure - not in hand yet unfortunately, I would say cast is the most likely, I also get the impression from the pictures that the 'metal' is also extremely impure.

No weight listed with it but looking at the pics its approx 27mm.

I had found a seller on ebay who had some of these casts for sale but dont seem to be able to locate them again, I had not attempted to authenticate them when I first found them.

Received this today and I'm pleasantly surprised - its nicer than the sellers pictures implied.

Obv: [MAX]IMIIIИIIZ ИOBIL CIIEZ - Right, laureate, probably draped and/or cuirassed.
Rev: [GE]NIO POPV-LI ROMA[NI] - Genio left, holding patera and cornucopia.
27mm 9.33g - If its actually based on a coin its probably RIC VI London 31 (p125).

In hand its darker in colour to the sellers pics and much more like my pics and the surfaces are better than I thought they would be.

I'm also having second thoughts about it being cast as it seems to have some bleeding around the 'OPV' of 'POPVLI' on the reverse - not conclusive proof but not something I would not associate with it being cast.

The porous surfaces that originally indicated casting seem to be the early stages of bronze disease (Yet another coin to treat! Aghhh!) as can be seen in the above picture in the pitting and green deposits therein. The edge of the coin shows no signs of a seam at all. What do people think?

All in all pretty happy with this buy at about $22 shipped even if it has got a bit of BD!

Completely different from the first images you posted. Now I would agree it is not cast, but before I thought it might be. Overall, not a bad coin, especially for the price.
