I was getting ready to sell some coins, extras, to get some cash because I got a 7070 for Christmas and wanted to fill some slots.

So I put a lupe on this 1885 O Morgan and found what appears to be a Clashed Die error. Unfortunitely the coin has been cleaned but I was wondering If this is a common variety or If it was rare?

thanks

well that is a pretty common place for a clash to show up on Morgans, if you look closely I am sure you will find other clash marks on both the Obverse and Reverse, check the Obverse where the neck and throat meet and see if you have a diagonal line coming off of that (probably do) if so thats a clash as well, then look closely in the V of the hair may be something there also. If you can take a picture of the whole coin I may be able to show you some of the places to look or I may see something in the pics

Bryan is correct, the area that you photographed is a pretty comon place to find clashes on the Morgan dollars.

Post up some pics of the whole coin .

You could fairly easily build a date/mint Full Set with that specific clash.
