Here's another ebay buy I made. It's a cancelled die that has an area of the obverse design that was not removed. I made an overlay of the area that's left on the die to show where the design matches the coin.

The serial number, starts with D3- and I've been told that shows it's a Denver Mint die from 1993. The rest of the number is 462985.

Most production dies that are cancelled and sold that I've seen have all of the design removed.

Counting only the portrait of Lincoln, I would guess that 7% to 10% remains. Anyone out there know how to determine the true percentage?

I have no idea what to do with it, but I think it's cool.

Nick-o-date?

Seriously, that is cool though. I had no idea they completely obliterated the details like that.

I guess I could send it to China and someone there could restore it to "good as new" condition for me.

Pretty neat. Looks more like a hub than a die.
Ya, send it to China. They will make it into a mini
morgan maker.

Fred Weinberg lists these occasionally. My guess is that's where you got yours.

Here goes one now.
