Got my 5-pack of Parks Canada toonies yesterday, here is one of them:

This is a scan of the RCM image of the same coin:

Parks-Canada-Toonie-Variety

I circled 3 differences:

1) the bird has feathers on the coins I got (versus no feathers on RCM image)
2) the two evergreens have lines at the base of their trunks (versus no lines)
3) the man's feet are cut into the ground (versus smooth)

Perhaps these are only differences between the specimen and circulating coins...but we all remember the Men's Hockey quarters in 2009, right? RCM used a specimen die on 200,000 red quarters, which slipped into circulation and everyone went nuts...woot woot, here we go again...!

The toonie you received has the same features as the one I received in the uncirculated set with the other Parks Canada coins.

I am thinking that the RCM image may not be an image of an actual produced coin.

Yes I have seen the image on their site, however, the images that they have on there are not always an accurate portrayal of what is produced. For example, the quarters in the Parks Canada special edition uncirculated set, and previously the painted bird series quarters.

I also compared a circulation Parks Canada loonie to the RCM image and found no significant differences (in particular the bird has feathers in both):

I agree there can be differences, but this could also be a heads-up of varieties to watch for. With the Men's Hockey quarter we ended with 4 varieties...and I got 'em all thanks to the vigilance of members on this site!

got my 250!
