I haven't been on this site in awhile, I have been on vacation and catching up on things and I finally have a chance to get on here today. I have both of the WM pucks now, the bullion and the P puck. I think the P puck looks much better than the bullion puck. You lose a lot of detail on the bullion, it just seems to blend together. It seperates a lot more in the P version. I also have the regular quarter in a silver proof 70 from PCGS and that appearance stands out better than either of the pucks. I wish they did a proof design for the pucks like they did the quarter. If you have a proof WM quarter, take a look at it and compare it to either of the pucks and you will see which is best.
On another note, I have order both of the new Perry pucks as well and I think the P - puck shipped today, still waiting from Provident on the bullion puck shipping info.

@Teach: one week I'm for the bullion, the next, the collector coin. It is true what you say about the foreground blended in with background on the bullion, particularly on the 3 coins with hoofed quadrupeds against a mountain. Any complex detailed design like that doesn't look good in DMPL bullion, they simply run together under direct lighting, but are perfectly shown under the blast vapor matte surface. The White Mountain looks pretty good in both, somebody not willing to shell out the $50 premium would do well with the bullion. Where is vapor blasted surface fails is in very fine detail, the blasting technique tends obliterate some detail, the armor plating on the Cairo is incised on the Vicksburg bullion, on the collector coin it looks sort of blobbed together. Perry's Victory should be good in either finish as it is a very simple design.

@Bizy -I am thinking the same about the Perry coin. Do you have a silver proof WM quarter by chance? If not, maybe you can find a picture on-line. I really like the way the details come out on this coin, frosted and glossy, just perfect. It is a shame that it is so small, would like to see that appearance on a puck.

The WM bullion has the mirrored background exactly like the proof quarters, it is just the the raised elements are not frosted. The Mint is just one step away from frosting the relief areas of the coin dies. It is something that they may be considering under their different finishes program. It can be done economically for 1" and 1 1/2" coins, why not a 3" coin? The White Mountains I have resemble 19th Century proofs where there isn't a cameo effect at all. I think it is just a matter of time when a proof collector puck will be offered.

This question may be slightly off this topic but I did see bullion and rounds referenced in earlier posts. For those of you that purchase rounds and/or bullion, who do you like to buy from and why. 1,000 pardons, if I am too far off-topic.  |

I think provident metals is one of the best,not just for bullion rounds and bars but also for the 5 oz ATB Pucks. That's where I got my White MT. Puck. |

I bought two White Mountain coins from APMEX and one from Provident Metals. All three coins look similar. Some people have had issues with APMEX and believe they cherry pick coins out of the monster box. Maybe they do, I don't really know as I've gotten consistent as expected quality from them. They are at least a $1 more per ounce than Provident and costs a few bucks more to ship as well. Provident sells very decent quality coins, they'll never sell scruffy or coins marked as seconds without some kind of marked discount. Not sure they cherry pick but often they are out of stock of many popular bullion coins so it's hard to do a mixed order of different bullion with them. APMEX is one stop shopping. I've also dealt with Fidelitrade, MCM, Golden Eagle, Jack Hunt Coin Brokers, I come back to Provident again and again. |

Me too, good looking coin. Really impressed with the quality of Mint's 5oz. bullion this year, hope it's 3 for 3 for Great Basin next week. Thanks for sharing.

That remarkable 350+ foot Doric column has the remains of 3 American officers and 3 British officers buried underneath it.
Can't wait to receive my 5 oz of pure Americana from the mint.

Sometimes it depends on the individual design but as a whole I like the collector finish better

I have been doing both and agree it depends on the design. The Perry looks like the details in the foreground might be kind of lost in the luster of the finish? I am impresse3d the coin looks that clean considering all the open space on it though.
