ATB Five Ounce Silver Coins

The quality of my McHenry is awesome. I usually don't order on the 1st day of availability but I will start because I haven't gotten the best quality here recently but this one was really nice.

I'm thinking the Mint shipped me people's returns to me on the last purchase or two but whatever, at $31 an ounce I'm happy.

My Ft. McHenry came in today while I was the Bay State Coin Show. I'll try to get a picture posted as soon as possible.

I keep thinking about the OP...what if? I'd be pretty sad, as this has continued one of my favorite series. I continue to cherrypick designs, however, not being that concerned with the lowest mintage or a complete set. WM is pretty, but none hold up to Gettysburg. I hope to see varied field/device finishes like that one has in the future, the like of which we are seeing more in silver commems (generals) and the recent ASE set.

This is my favorite for this years coins - we'll see about Rushmore when it comes.

The only thing that I'd have liked more is for the sky to have been more mirror like. I think the proof silver quarters actually have the images captured a lot better visually. The explosion on the puck doesn't seem to have the same dramatic flair as it does on them.

@Barry - great picture again, you do a really fine job on capturing the design!
@Doug - I have been saying the same thing, I think these designs come more alive on the silver proof quarters. I wish the Mint was making standard proofs on these pucks to break up the vapor blast finish on a few designs. I guess I'm glad they don't make a vapor blast, a bullion AND a standard proof, because it is bad enough having to get two of every kind AND not three. I haven't picked up the last 2 bullion pucks, thinking I might be done with those and just concentrate on the P pucks.

Three of them are back ordered now with estimated ship dates between 9-16 and 9-24. My GB puck backorder date rolled forward to 9-24. These must have all sold really well in the last week for $154.95. Most people that bought the McHenry bullion are reporting instead of deep mirror fields, hazing (similar to cartwheel luster on an uncirculated coin) and the wire brush effect on the fields from improper drying process at the Mint. Similar to what was reported for the Perry's bullion. Didn't buy my pair of bullion as usual since I opted to for the vapor blast pair, but I agree as beautiful as the coin is, the vapor blasting doesn't do anything for the image whereas a DMPL might really enhance the starburst against watery fields. I'll pick up a pair this week from Provident if Ag holds under $24/oz.

They may all reach maximum for the P if they strike them all. And these will be the least cost as well! I never even considered the first 4 with the 279 price. At least the last 2010 was finally at 229 from what I recall. I started my true interest then Gettysburg was lowered to 229
