Hi everyone, I am hoping to get some advise and or opinions on this 1889-O Morgan that I recently purchased.

She is in a PCI gold label holder as MS65. She is very bright with super cartwheel effects and very few bag marks but her ear, hairlines above the ear and the eagles breast feathers are flat. Very clean with some very small dark spots in the fields under magnification.

Is my concern a characteristic of the strike? I dont feel that she has been cleaned but I am no professional. Any opinions on her grade would be very appreciated.

I've seen some nice coins in the gold PCI holders. That being said this is a typical strike for that year and mint mark. 65 may be a tad high but a 64 isn't out of the question. Does not appear to be cleaned

Welcome to the Coin Community Family, morganza7. I took the liberty of moving this thread to a place where it will see a more dedicated audience.

You're correct in believing that the flatness of the strike is a characteristic of this issue, and will not interfere with the grade to the extent that it might a different coin.

Even given the gold label, I think PCI was quite close to the mark on this coin. Do me a favor if you would, based on something I think I see - look inside the D of DOLLAR for a couple of die chips, towards the top....

Thank you both for your reply's. I feel better about keeping her around now.

Superdave, under 10X mag I do see a single spot in upper right. It appears to be a raised spot rather than indented. Good eye, what are you thinking?

I would say MS-64+ for this one. Good looking coin!

Nice coin! I think this coin just comes up a tad short of making a 65. I will go with MS-64+ on this one.

PCI always over grades, but I agree with the above, MS-64

I also wouldn't buy it as a 65, but 64 or 64+ I could see.

64 due to mark on the eagle, otherwise it is very clean.
