1870-1920 Mintages On The 5 Cent?

Are the mintages only a couple thousand up to 1911 when it goes into the millions?

No, from the starting of the mintage (1858), it was already in the millions. From 1858-1901 (Victorian) the highest mintage was 3 000 000 (1880 H) and the lowest 200 000 (1884), if you don't count the varieties.

It increased quite a bit during the Edwardian reign (all close to 2 000 000, a couple over 5 000 000) and in George V's reign, they all went from around 3 000 000 up to 10 000 000.

So even at the starting, it was pretty high in the million - 3 million range (which I wouldn't call a couple thousand)

Go to this link and you will find details of the mintage's of the nickel between the years you specify. As you will see in some years - 1884 - the mintage was only 200,000 but in other years - 1919 - it was up to 7,835,400.

In my charlton, On the mintages it only said it was a couple thousand untill 1920 which started at 3 million

Charleton represents millions by leaving off the last three zeros. SO 3000 is three million.
