Doesn't anyone collect just for the sake of building a collection?

I do!

Since we're on the subject of $2 notes, although some of the notes in my $2 Album may not have a large value, I like seeing a $2 note from every year printed, from 1928 to 2003, and a 1917 at the top. I also include multiple districts in a year when I can, multiple series (A,B,C, etc.), a few star notes, some consecutive serial numbers, and a few consecutive FDOI cancelled '76 notes. And I also have a CU 1976 District Set.

I also have albums for $1, $5, $10, $20, and a combined album for $50 and $100. All of these albums follow the same scheme as above. There are many CU notes throughout, and they all include large size notes. Except the $100 - haven't bit on one of tho$$$e yet!

Although I know there is value there, it's not the main consideration. The COLLECTION is. The value just comes with it.

FWIW,

Steve

Hi Whytlash,
I just knew there had to be at least a few collectors in this section of the forum that were interested more in the collecting of US Currency other than what it is worth, most can find out what something is worth just by looking at the auctions on e bay. And after you bought it it's to late to ask if it was a good deal, most times your usually stuck with it good deal or not.

I collect for the joy of collecting and don't worry about how much it's worth, if it fits in my collection and I can afford it I try an buy it.

I collect somewhat like you Whytlash.

So far I have most all of the small size notes from 1928 on up except for the 1933 $ 10. SC, never found one I could afford.

It seems that the ones I'm missing are the newer notes in the 90's and 2000's. I guess I don't make as much of an effort looking for them. I know there not worth much but I really don't care what there worth, sooner or later I'll pick them up if for no other reason than to fill in the holes in the collection, and I don't worry about the serial numbers or stars, just try to get nice condition notes for the collection.

I have now moved on to the large size US Currency, much more of a challenge and of course much more costly but I have a good start on them.

If anyone has any duplicates to sell please check out my
US Currency Wanted list in the wanted to buy section of the forum, will pay top dollar for most any of the older notes and a reasonable price for the newer ones.

Wish I could offer something other than just cash but I do not have enough post to trade or sell off my duplicates.

Hope everyone has Happy Holidays.
Regards
The Bill Collector

Thanks Bill Collector. Although I am mindful of the value of something when I purchase it for my set, sometimes that can't be the main concern. I can't afford to spend a fortune, but I try to acquire the best notes I can, and pay a fair price for them. Sometimes we pay a little more than "book" or FMV, but that comes with the territory. Just like the ones you got so cheap you feel like you literally stole them.

I think the $2 notes have an interesting history, and although they don't get used as much as intended in later times, I thought it was cool that they reintroduced them in 1976. They are certainly a nice looking note. The Trumbull design on the reverse is a beautiful representation of a singular moment in American history. In this series, as in the others, I have current issues as well. Although the '76, '95, and '03 may not hold a ton of value individually, to me they have value as part of my "set".

Hi Steve,

I'm mostly a collector too. I like collecting notes from my local banks per denomination and series.

What kind of folder do you store your notes in? Do you have a link to show what it looks like? I need a good way to store mine. I do store some in the plastic folders that have 3-4 slots per page and I keep them in a loose leaf binder. I was wondering if there was something better?

This site is a great reference on released FRNs:
http://www.uspapermoney.info/

They haven't released a new $2 note since the 2003A series. I hope they will print some more in the near future.

Thanks,
Wes

"Today I was at the bank and asked if they had any red seal $2 bills. The teller said she didn't, but she had $150 in face value of uncirculated green seal $2 bills all from 2003."

Hi Dan, are those 2003A series? This web site says none were printed for 2003, but 2003A instead for those serial #s. 19.2 million were printed.

I think any note that is CU has the potential of being worth more than face, in the future.

Some will take more years than others, depending upon mintage, but look at any dealer selling notes and the CU noes are always way above face, so there is demand for them, if you care to sell them.

Like what someone has said, group them in smaller bunches and sell them for a profit, if you wish.

Thanks,
Wes

Hi Wes! Sorry I never got back to this thread to see your reply.

I use the BCW Currency Portfolio. I like being able to see both sides of a note (found others first that didn't show the reverse), and the notes stay in your individual currency holders then slip into the album. Works great for me, looks nice, and stack upright on the shelf. I have 7 of these and can't imagine using anything else, because I haven't found anything better.

http://www.bcwsupplies.com/products...ortfolio.htm

And they're pretty inexpensive too! I just noticed that BCW is out of stock right now, but they can be found elsewhere as well, like ebay.

Also, given the fact that the $2 isn't used in commerce very much, and a lot of people don't even know what it is when they see one(!), I doubt we will see another series issue. But, the world is a wacky place and stranger things have happened!

Hope this helps, and good luck on you continuing paper currency collecting.

I recently got $100 face in consecutive $2's from the bank and decided to keep them. The banks all indicate to me that customers don't want them and therefore they do not order them or hang on to them. If I were to find some more full straps I would consider keeping them.

They were Series 2003A if I recall correctly but I've already spent them at face value; I'd rather use that money to coin roll hunt for nickels and half dollars. :-)

TheDanMan,

How Can You Say There Are No Uncirculated 1976 $2 Bills?... I Have 5 New Uncirculated 1976 $2 Bills w/Consecutive Serial Numbers; E49452160A through E49452164A

~Lord Drazil

P.S. I'd Like To Know If They Are Worth More Than $2 As A Unit.

This site says they are worth at least $3:

I have a few CU too and I think they are worth holding on to. It is a great series to save them for, since it was our bicentennial.

Two weeks ago I cashed an 80 something dollar check at my credit union. The teller asked me how I wanted that broken down, and I jokingly said in two dollar bills. He said that he could do that and counted them off for me...2003A series, no stars, but consecutives from a broken strap. I spend them on a daily basis on the "little things"; Icee drink on my way to work, potato soup for dinner at the commissary, mailing off a small package to a fellow CCF member, etc... The deuces and dollar coins circulate prety freely here in OKC when I get ahold of them.
