I see these in my Charlton book but am unsure exactly what it really means an example would be on page 163, 2000 25cent piece description is Pride with two arrows pointing up wards the next has pride with the first arrow pointed upwards and the one beside pointing to the right.
I am guessing that it might have something to do with the axis of the press? please explain in really simple terms or even a diagram if you can.

Two arrows up is "Medal Alignment" - this is how pretty much all Canadian coins are. (except for some oldies) You flip the coin from side to side to see the other side upright.

One arrow up and one down is "Coin Alignment" - this is how American coins are. You flip the coin from top to bottom to see the other side upright.

One arrow sideways would mean a 90 degree rotation of one side in one direction or the other, in relation to the other side.

In the Charlton Catalog, the Pride Quarter shows that most of them were normal medal alignment (two arrows up) but a few had 90 degree die rotation (One arrow up, one sideways) - hence the difference in catalog price.

Hope that helped!
