Greetings

Today I went coin shopping with my Dad and I happened to come across a shop that had some nice Ancient coins. I typically don't collect these coins; I collect English/British milled coins. This is a completely new area to me so I have no idea what to look for when buying or anything about these coins in general. Anyway, I saw one that caught my eye so I decided to buy it.

It would be much appreciated if I could get some information regarding this coin. Did I pay too much? Was it a good deal? Is it authentic? I paid $50.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. The mint mark looks to be SMN.

Nice coin, even thought its been over cleaned a bit. It has nice detail and strike. The mint mark looks like SMN with an S in the right field. That would make this coin RIC VII Nicomedia 13 and rated at R3.

The obv. letters are .....IMP C VAL LICIN LICINIVS P F AVG Rev.....IOVI CONSERVATORI

Probably struck at Nicomedia it looks like SMN in exergue. Officina letter S to right. (Heraclea if it's SMH)

Laureate head right. Rev. Jupiter standing left, holding Victory on a globe & scepter, eagle at foot left with wreath in beak.

It does look a little over cleaned but it is a nice coin.
Lower grade coins sell about 15-25, better and more rare issues 25-75.

There are some folks here who can tell you more than I.

Some are for sale here..http://search2.vcoins.com/results.a...b04c53ae6a8c
