Hi,and first of all happy new year.
I buy this coin today, the first coin of the year, nothing special however my first justin I coin,I think it's an interesting emperor, considereing is the second byzantine emperor after anastasius and befor justinianus.
The coin is very worn on the right, signs that has been around a lot, and I like that, all things considered I think it is not so bad, plus I've never found for sale before that emperor, someone has justin I coins?
here som einformations about justin:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_I

the coin is:
Justin I, 518-527 AD. Constantinople mint. AE Half-follis. DN IVSTINVS PP AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / Large K, long cross to left, officina letter to right, no mintmark. SB 68, DOC 14.
All opinions are welcome, and I'd like to remember to everybody that byzantine coins are romans especially if we have an early emperor.

Nice coin. Usually the legend is not readable, this one has nice detail.

Hi echizento and thanks for reply,as I write I think it's not so bad as state of preservation, maybe better on the reverse, however I think there is another standard I mean we must consider a different guide line for preservation and details on byzantine coins than with pure roman.
roman coins are always with better details and nearly better preservation than byzantine isn't it?
If someone has a justin I coin I'll be glad to see it...other opinion....I know that I'm one of the few on here that love byzantine coins....

I agree with giano that Byzantines can require an adjustment to our standards of condition. Justin I is not the easiest. I only have one 5 nummi that it is 'high grade' if you only count wear but has a few problems like a die break on the nose and 'slight' centering issues. For the record, Justin II is a lot easier to find. The one to watch for is the joint issue that has both the names of Justin and Justinian on the obverse but just one bust. I don't have it.

I too just acquired a Byzantine this week giano. The obverse is just an out line of a person, no legend as echizento alluded to, but on the reverse the "K" and part of the cross to the left is visible, but it doesn't have the "E" to the right as yours does. As I am just starting to understand Roman coins, I think it may be a bit before I get into Byzantine coins. Your coin is in much better condition than mine. A good find.

thanks again echizento, about your coin it seems silvered, maybe is the light of the pic....however nice coin, thanks to show it.
dougsmit, thanks for post your coin, sure is in high grade,I agree,as I've said that byzantine coins needs different standard conditions, however very nice coin.
oxos:can we see your coin?or you've just put it in a post?yes sometimes you go into byzantine coin after collectiong pure roman when you find late roman imperial coins then you go into byzantine....for me it has been in this way....

Very nice pickup giano. I just ordered a very nice Justinian I that I'm waiting on (I made a thread about it), and now that I got Justinian, I'm going after a coin of his dad next .

It was the beginning of the Dark Ages (Early Middle Ages), so I figure people were hard up for cash and what little money was available was spent (and circulated as a result) as fast as it was earned (at least, that's my thought on the matter). Anyways, thanks for sharing your Justin I giano!
