Paper Money has a similar grading scale as coins. P - Poor (Not often used) G - Good VG - Very Good F - Fine VF - Very Fine EF - Extremely Fine AU - Almost Uncirculated Unc - Uncirculated C.Unc - Choice Uncirculated G.Unc - Gem Uncirculated When grading banknotes, generally no numbers are used in the grade (Some TPG's will add a number after the grade). There are a lot of factors that come into play when grading paper money, this could be: Number of folds Sharp Corners or Rounded Corners Rips or Tears Pinholes Stains or Smudges Trimmed Pressed or Cleaned I suggest that you pick up the Charlton Catalogue for Canadian Paper Money, it has an entire section on grading banknotes in the beginning. You can check out the BCS website (Canada's Banknote TPG) and read the grading standards that they use. You will see a section "Grading Standards at the top of the page. http://www.banknotecertification.com/index.php

I would say because of the light centerfold and the one near Beattie's signature, it would be an EF40 IMO.

Quote: Hi Canadian-Banknotes,
Is BCS the only grading company for Canadian Bank Notes in Canada? Thanks. BCS is not the only grading company for Canadian Banknotes, like Ugly said CCCS is also a Canadian TPG. However, BCS is the "go to" TPG for Canadian Banknotes. Other companies, such as PCGS and PMG will also grade Canadian Banknotes, but they are American companies and use different grading standards. I know many collectors of Canadian notes who will not touch a note graded by PMG, because they tend to be a bit more generous in there grades.
