I stopped by a coin shop in a town near where I live the other day. It was a nice shop and the employees were very friendly. I am still newer to the hobby but they were patient with me and let me look around/ask questions. I was looking at the albums and found one I needed - a Whitman Buffalo nickels 9408. On the back was a sticker that read "Ernie Otis Western Auto" and a price tag of $2.75. I asked the employee (jokingly) if they would honor that price and to my surprise they did! So now my Buffalo nickel collection has a nice new home for under $3!

Smart of them because now I will be back - nice to get a deal though.

Cool ... nice story and I always try as best I can to support my local coin dealers.

Wishing for you many happy days filling the Buffalo nickel album.

If you're just getting started, you local coin shop is a place you should get to know well. Ask folks their name and get to know everyone. Stop in often and buy stuff here and there...be sure to chitchat. You don't have to buy all your coins from them, but having a good shop is VERY important to a collector.

I often spend hours hanging out at my favorite shop and have learned an unbelievable amount by doing that. I feel so lucky to have such a cool shop with a great owner near me.

Which shop would that be? I know you're from the Cincinnati area like myself so I really need to find a good shop. The one close to me in Mainstrausse (covington) has nice guys working but very limited selection.

I wish I could support my local coin shop. All of my coin purchases since I got back into collecting were from ebay with the exception of my 1917 D Type II SLQ and 1924 D SLQ I picked up at the clubs show this year which was on a Sunday.

Working M-F 9-6 and Saturday 9-3 all of the shops are closed when I am available to spend my money. It's hard enough finding a bank open when I am to get rolls and boxes from.

Thanks everyone. I just moved my nickels over into the new album and although I love the album I am now motivated to try to get some coins to fill the missing slots. The old flip album didn't look so empty......

I'm also in the Cincinnati area and looking for a good shop. If you could let me know which one you like so much that would be great! :-D
