Hi all I have this 1980 Hong Kong $1, it is gold in colour and appears proof, I cant find any evidence that a coin like this should exist. Has someone just gold plated this coin or is it something else? Coin weighs the normal 7.1 grams. Scan didnt come out all that well, the coin is a very shiney gold and in much better shape than the scan would suggest. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

The Hong Kong dollar minted in 1980 was made from copper-nickel,had a weight of 7.0999g and a diameter of 25.5mm.
A gold coin was minted that year with a value of $1000 for the Year of the Monkey.

Thank you aiglet7, these details I already know. I dont believe this coin to be gold but it has a gold finish, maybe been plated somehow or it was struck like this.

Sounds like a post-mint plating to me.
