Hi, I have taken photos of my half sovereign which can be seen below and I wondered if anybody would be good enough to let me have an approximate value please? Photos of the actual coin:- The coin has never been in circulation and it has been in storage for the best part of it's life. I am aware of it's bullion value but does the coin hold a higher 'collectors coin value'? Any replies would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, David.

I see that half sovs were struck only in Perth, Australia in 1918 (there should be a mintmark P) above the date. I won't quote the value in my book for it is over 10 years old, but it shows the value 4 to 8 times fold of values of other years of issue. 4X for VF, 6X for EF, and 8X for Uncirculated.

Thanks svslav.
I managed to obtain a 2010 copy of the World Coin Guide recently and strangely the guide did not list this coin year.
What would be a good coin guide for me to purchase please?

The 2010 Standard Catalog has it listed for $1900 (1227.05£) in XF and $3100 (2002.05£) in UNC....Not bad for .1177 ozt of gold!

Thanks also to the above three posters for their kind replies. I must admit that the value of this coin is a very pleasant surprise to me!
Essentially, I guess my next step is to read up/educate myself on grading. I know for sure ownership history wise that this actual coin has never been in circulation, but on *very close* magnified inspection, it bears very light marks owing to being tucked away in a plastic bag and occasionally being handled.
All the best,
David.

Hi David,
I would actually question the authenticity of your coin. It doesn't look genuine to me. But perhaps it is the photography. Send it to an authenticator or a sovereign dealer who can look at the coin in the flesh.
