We got this coin out in a small collection that was in a toolbox a couple days ago, finally sorting through we've found a large assortment of foreign coins, and a few American coins.

Among the collection was this medallion, but it's too badly corroded for me to make out any identifying marks. I was hoping someone else might recognize one of the details and know exactly what it is... So here it is!

This appears to be a coin of Carlos 1st of Spain - 1516-1566 - 4 Maravedis

obverse: IVANA ET CAROLVS REGESA around a circle containing a crowned K between a castle and a lion.
reverse: ET Hispaniarum INDIARUM around a circle that contains an I crowned, with the value 4 below, between a castle and a lion. Should be 30mm in diameter. Mint would have been Mexico.

Wish I could find one like this in my toolbox!

Nice job on the identification, thanks so much aiglet7! Any idea how much one of these might be worth, or the rarity? This will most likely enter my personal collection though, thanks again!
