I found thid 63 searching a BU roll l know the pictures suck I was only able to get it to show the ends but in hand it is a perfect C or horseshoe stamped between the 1 and the leaf - there is no C on the penny that size nor can l see anything that could have clashed to make that shape ? like l said in hand you can see the whole thing so l hope you can make it out from the pics

It looks like a clash from the denticles from the obverse.
I have seen a few like that but in different positions, if you want I can post links that show images of similar marks.

Id like to see those links but l really dont think its a denticle clash nor is it a V l know the pictures suck and l will try to get better but as l said in hand the whole letter C is visible which is what threw me off.

Youre right Cubro that 62 pic is very close to what l have maybe exactly like it. In those pictures you can see the whole horeshoe or C shape l was unable to get to show in my pictures.

Im surprised it would be a denticle clash with such a defined c shape to it though - nonetheless l think its cool and l put it aside in my error pile. Its nice to have it identified though. Thanks :)

Well since the mystery of this has been solved and le now know its a denticle clash l have a new question. What are the odds of finding this same clash in the same place repeatedly ? Since posting this question lve found several more of this clash in precisely the same spot. Does this make it a similar clash to a hanging number ?

The chances of finding them in the same BU roll should be good because the coins in the roll came from the same batch from the same machine and most likely made within seconds. I had a similar occurrence while looking for die clashes in 8 rolls of 2010s. Some rolls had up to 4 and others had none. I found 12 in the 8 rolls, about 1/34, but finding one in the wild, coin roll hunting, would be 1/250.

The working die has a scar from the clash event and would continue making the denticle clash until it was removed and polished clean.

Its just like a hanging number clash but the die moved into a different position than expected. I like to call this type of die clash a Rouge Clash, and I know of seven others.

This must be a pretty popular clash, while going through some rolls of 64s l found it again. This time the C is above the 6. In the first 5 rolls l went through l pulled a whole roll of them, after that l just stopped putting them aside, saw another bunch in the next few rolls also so at this rate l woud estimate 2 rolls out of 8 and l still have a dozen rolls to go through. Like l said they seem so plentiful l dont really notice them anymore. On a side nothe the coins showing this denticle clash also show a clash beside the right leaf which almost looks like the tip of a leaf.

This thread relieves my mind -- I've been looking for this particular topic for a while now. I have eleven of these "denticle die clash" coins, and have never found even a mention of this particular clash before. Has anyone out there who has seen it noticed that there is a second, weaker version of the same clash about half-way between the first clash and the rim? How would the denticles get clashed that far toward the center of the coin? Not just once, but twice? As well, all of mine have a die crack on the obverse running from the bottom of the bust through the "N" in "Regina". Anyone know if this is common to all of this variety?

Hey pennysaver, since this post l have found a few others on different years also - although in different places so you may want to keep your eyes on all years. l found it on 64s above the 9 in the date and on a 58 or 59 (cant remember for sure which year but since l sent one to smallcentguy he might remember te year)it was up by the stem and he told me he's seen it on another year as well. What year was yours on ? was it the 62 as well ?

so let the hunt continue - by the way, l have a full roll of the 64s with this clash so if you need one let me know man

Hi DvntMstr

All mine are on the 1963 -- I didn't even realize that there were other years with this same clash until I read your posts. As for my needing a 1964 with this clash -- I would love to have one! I'll send you an email with my info, etc. Thanks!
