Does anyone know of a coin minted by the U.S. Mint sometime during the Depression for the purpose of monetizing our way out of the Depression by selling it to the Federal Reserve Bank? It supposedly had a value of $100,000. After a lot of digging on the internet, I could not find any information on it. If such a coin did exist, as much information as possible (description of the coin, history, picture, etc.) would be very helpful.

Thank you!

An urban legend, I think; probably a way to justify this not-so-brilliant idea...

We have never had a $100,000 coin.

We did have a $100,000 gold certificate. It was only used for transfers between Federal Reserve Banks and was never used by the general public.

Since these were gold certificates, each one created had to be backed by an equivalent amount of gold. They could not just print one of those like they could the current (un-backed) Federal Reserve notes.

Perhaps a copper plated, zinc cored coin, with a face value of $100,000, of a size a few of us may be familiar with, could do the trick! or
