My wife served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and came home with this coin/medal. I was unaware she even got it until last night while cleaning out her closet. I can't seem to find any information on it online. It weighs 1 ounce and is a proof. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if it is plated or silver. Thank you Edited by codywhite3914 01/21/2012 09:56 am

Welcome to the site.
The coin is made by a private mint or coin company, not one affiliated with a government. I am unsure of which one, however if you do a web search (you may have already) you might find it. It could be from China or somewhere since a lot of this type of stuff comes out of there.

Thank you. I have been collecting for about a year now and cant get enough. My love for coins grew from my love of metal detecting. I can usually find information online about everything I find and acquire but I cant find anything on this. The weight and look of it would suggest pure silver but with no markings of purity or any info I cant be sure. Hopefully somebody on here has seen one before. Thanks

I just did several searches and came across an old conversation with an expired link, but I did get the following information: a man bought one just like this off of ebay and it is called the Bush Victory coin. It is .999 silver he said. This all took place in 2003. Not sure how many were issued, but they must be far and few inbetween. I would definitely hold on to it because it seems very rare.

A friend told me to take it to a jewelers and get it tested for silver content but if it is even slightly rare I don't think I should have it scratched for any reason. Does anybody know another way to test? I wonder if water displacement would work.

Quickest way ,try a magnet, if it sticks to it, it's not silver.

Its not magnetic at all which rules out a few metals it could be. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that somebody has seen one before.

Try a ``ring`` test, drop the coin on a solid surface (not from high) notice the ringing sound it makes. Take a copper or cupro-nickel coin and do the same. If it's silver, it should make a quite high-pitched ringing noise, a copper or cupro-nickel should make a ``thud`` sound, sort of...

Some pieces are marked on the edge.

I just tried the test with sound and compared to a Cupro-Nickle Ike dollar, the bush coin did make a higher pitched noise when it struck the table. There is also nothing on the sides of the coin. Thanks

I have never seen a bullion piece made of precious metals not marked with their purity on the medal/coin somewhere. This leads me to believe its plated or some other metal. I am not saying this with 100% certainty it is just I have never seen one that wasn't marked so someone would know what they were buying at the time of purchase. I do wish to thank you and your wife for the sacrifices you both made from her serving our country

So, was there any resolution to this question? I also have one of these coins. There is no mark on it, and I have no certification, etc. Just a gut feeling it's real silver. Hoping someone can prove it one way or another.

You should be able to determine yourself whether it is silver or not by performing a Specific Gravity test, use the forum search box to pull up postings relating to the details of performing the test.

So does anyone else think this coin seems to depict that a cross between GW Bush and Jimmy Carter defeated... Moses?
