Dear Community

I have joined today as I have found two coins in my grandfathers belongings who sadly passed away in December.
These are One Dollar coins and are silver coloured dated 1885 & 1884 I didn't think much of them until I walked past an antique shop selling coins and I thought, "wonder what their worth". so I yesterday (last night infact) I looked up what the coin said in Google and learnt what mint marks to check for the 1885 does not have a mint mark but the 1884 has an S which I think according to websites is rare so I've spent all day trying to figure out if this thing is real ? and I'm scared to take it to a shop it case they tell me its not and I look silly.

My grandfather does not as far as I know have a connection with the US he was a compulsive buyer as I've noticed by cleaning out his bungalow.

i have looked at some things to try and see if its real or not I took it out of the plastic cover & weighed the 1884 and it did weigh 26.73 grams but the scales I'm using are certainly not high precision just cheap digital £10 scales the condition is pretty good but I ddon'tunderstand what a vf or ms quality would mean I have tried to upload some pictures but they are too big. I have read some posts on here and it sound like you guys can help. thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Please have a look at your other thread, stumped, which I have moved to the appropriate venue and commented in. I wish to help, and hope that your time here is enjoyable, but I must advise that posting multiple threads in differing places on the same topic is a bit of a faux pas in the world of online communities.
